The Stoop fell race, Haworth – 22/12/2013

‘The Stoop’ fell race report Ali Nash/Jen Willingham

What a great morning of muddy, hilly, boggy fun at the Stoop fell race! Great to see lots of Striders there…including a special guest appearance from Dave Armstrong cheering us all on with a big smile on his face, happy to be back on 2 feet & up on the moors!

1ST 30:51 Tom ‘Dasher’ Adams (Ilkley Harriers)
86 41:05 Mick ‘Rudolph’ Chambers (1st V60)
87 41:06 Ali ‘Pudding’ Nash
171 45:26 Richard ‘Crackers’ Stone
177 45:43 Ben ‘Mulled’ Marchant
207 47:14 Jen ‘Egg-nogg’ Willingham
244 49:24 Paul Disney
252 49:56 Laura ‘Fruitcake’ Marchant
255 50:06 Jeremy ‘Mixed nuts’ Wright
321 55:29 Louise ‘not a fairy!’ Higgins (best fancy dress and spot prize winner)
342 58:03 Pete ‘HoHoHo’ Huby

Nine brave striders endured the bracing conditions for the love of fell running…… or championship points…. or free santa hat and curlywurly…. The race started with the customary mad charge of 400 runners (some in various states of fancy dress – from Reindeer to Christmas presents (running in a cardboard box!)) out of the quarry, followed by a long, progressively muddier, wetter , colder and windier climb up to the Stoop standing stone (complete with santa hat). The downhill was ‘interesting’ with plenty of pockets of deep mud to catch out the unsuspecting and reckless. Great fun had by all and back to the Sun Inn Haworth for soup, beer and the prize giving – where Louise took a fancy dress prize (tin of chocs) AND spot prize (Auld Lang Syne place) and Mick Chambers took 1st V60 (booze and chocs). Not a bad haul!!
