At Saltaire Striders we want all our members to enjoy their running, and especially the time they
spend with us on club runs. This applies to everyone, whether they just want a safe and sociable
time with friends, or whether they want to push themselves to improve speed and technique.
To do this we offer a variety of runs at different paces to suit everybody, sometimes
incorporating extras so that those who want to can do a bit more. All runs are led by trained run
leaders. The details of each run will depend on the route chosen, the conditions and the mix in the
group, with a rough guide below.
All group run leaders will where possible ‘lead from the back’. Faster runners will be encouraged
to loop back and rejoin the main group. Looping back is key to working as a team: this supports slower runners (we’ve all been there!) and is not seen as a chore.
We will support members who want to move up through groups - remember no Strider is left
behind - but if runners want to stay in the same group or step down because of injury or upcoming
races that is fine.
If you’re not yet able to run 3 miles/5km, a Couch to 5k programme is a great idea, eg
https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/running-and-aerobic-exercises/get-running-with-couch-to-5k/
From time to time the club will run Couch to 5k sessions for those completely new to running.
Runs will be roughly 4 miles/6.5km. Perfect for Striders who want an easier, sociable run, including
those who have recently started or returned to running, having already got to the point of being
able to run 3 miles/5km. Also good for coming back after injury or if you need a rest before or after
a big race.
Runs will be roughly 5 miles/8km Mondays and 6 miles/9.6km Thursdays.
An achievable step up for anyone running comfortably at the front in group 1.
Runs will be roughly 6 miles/9.6km Mondays and 7 miles/11.3km Thursdays.
Anyone looking for a slightly longer and slightly fast run from group 2.
Held on Thursdays only runs will be roughly 8 miles/12.9km, this is for members who are running
frequently. This run is at a fast pace.
All Striders are welcome at our weekly interval training sessions. There is no minimum pace. All abilities are welcome and can benefit from track, but we’d recommend that you’ve been running regularly for at least 4-6 months first.
