The presentation evening will be held on Friday 15th March at the Brudenell Social Club, Leeds.
We have five Striders who have won individual prizes, which is a phenomenal achievement given how many runners are involved.
Helen Love 1st F65
Will Kerr 2nd M45
Andy Brown 2nd M55
Stuart Dunbar 2nd M60
Martin Fillingham 3rd M50
32 Striders turned out on a beautiful but cold Roundhay Park morning to contest the final regular season Peco race. The course is always challenging, but more so this year with heavily waterlogged grass areas resulting in heavy going for large parts.
It was a really successful day for both the women and the men: the women secured their spot in the First Division for next season; and the men finished runners up in the First Division and will be promoted back to the Premier Division next season. And the vets teams finished in strong positions too: 5th in the Premier Division for the women and 4th in the Premier Division for the men.
Brilliant running from every single person who represented the club this season!
Filey Lions 10k Away Trip June 23rd 2024
Following a poll from members, this years "away day" race will be the Filey Lions 10K Beach race. This is an out-and-back along the lovely Filey/Hunmanby beach. It's a fairly low-key event with an entry limit of 150 runners, recent years have seen about 90, so the organisers, Filey Lions, are looking forward to welcoming our blue and yellow brigade!
Our coaching team will be working on a training plan for those of us who want to make this a really special race, maybe doing your first 10K ever, first race after returning from injury or pushing for a new PB, this will be a great event to go for! So watch out for some communication from Louise Nash on that front....
Nearer the time we will make more final arrangements, but expect to be setting off from here about 7am, getting there in time to park, warm up etc. Then afterwards have some fish & chips or similar. However Filey is a lovely seaside town so would be great if you wanted to bring the family to support you and have a great Yorkshire day out, or even find somewhere to stay and go for the weekend.
The John Carr 5K race series, a longstanding tradition hosted by Saltaire Striders for several years, is undergoing exciting changes this year. On May 26th, we will be conducting a series of 5K races throughout the day held at Greenhead Athletics Track in Keighley.
Our first race is reserved for runners with a 5K Personal Best of sub-35 minutes, setting the minimum standard for participation.
As the day progresses, each subsequent race will feature faster runners, culminating with 'elite' athletes in the final race. To ensure a smooth experience, a race schedule will be announced, specifying each runner's start time, allowing them to arrive at the track well-prepared. Spectators are encouraged to join us at any time during the day to witness the thrilling races.
Additionally, we'll have a resident DJ providing music throughout the event, and food and drinks will be readily available.
Feel free to bring your family and friends to provide enthusiastic support. In a particularly exciting feature, the finishing straight will offer a 'Lactate Tunnel of Love,' with four designated lanes for spectators to get up close to the action.
The race will be professionally timed using electronic chips integrated into the race number bibs, enhancing accuracy and competitiveness.
The ultimate goal is to achieve Personal Bests while racing against runners of similar abilities.
Summer trip to Tromso, Norway for the Midnight Sun Marathon and other distances. June 22nd 2024
Stewart Spink is proposing what will be a spectacular trip to Northern Norway for a series of varying run distances. A full itinery and flight details from Manchester will follow shortly.
There are more than 6000 participants from all over the world gathering in the streets of Tromsø to join the celebration that is Midnight Sun Marathon.
Midnight Sun Marathon has been held every year since 1990 in Tromsø, the Arctic capital of Norway located at 69 degrees north. About 350 km north of the arctic circle, most of the city is situated on a small island surrounded by the sea and beautiful mountains.
Northern Norway and the nature here is full of strong contrasts that provide intense running experiences for its visitors. During the summer the sun never sets below the horizon and running under the Midnight Sun is a true bucket list opportunity.
There are five different distances to choose from: Marathon (42,2km), Mizuno Half Marathon (21,1km), Coop Mila (10km), iTromsø Mini-marathon (5km) and SNN Kids Race (500m). The races are open for all and day becomes a festival in town. Many locals gather along the streets of the course to cheer the runners on through the streets of Tromsø.
Club Championship-To the end of February
With just one race in this year's championship remaining, the Keighley 10k on March 10th. This race could well decide the promotion and relegation issues in all three divisions.
Good luck to all in this season finale!

For details on the Club Championship, how it works, and how points are scored, please visit the website via the link below.
Please see the records section on the website, which now include parkruns.
The club records are now up to date on the website with as many results as we are able to ascertain.
Track Update
We are getting very healthy numbers for our Wednesday track sessions. If you've not come to one before, it's great fun and really improves every aspect of your running. IT IS NOT catered for fast runners, we include everybody no matter what ability.
We recently held a track taster session, and will be looking to do so again shortly. This event is FREE so there's no excuse for not coming!
Park Run with Tim Mosedale
Congratulations to Lisa Prosho, Marcus Isherwood, Richard Thomas, and James Davies for joining the parkrun 100 club in February! James ran a PB on his 100th, one of two striders running a parkrun PB this month (well done too to Jamie Read). well done to Jane Hughes too for joining the 50 club.
I noticed that Barney Lerner became the 9th strider to reach 50 different parkruns earlier in the year, from his 278 total parkruns, brilliant touring Barney!
James Davies at his 100th Parkrun with fellow Strider runners and supporters
Parkrun Competition with Ilkley and Baildon
We are now four weeks into the group stage of this competition, with 2 more available Saturdays to register a time!
The tables are shown in the link below with the rules attached as well.
Prior to the C25K group I was struggling to fill the void left having stopped playing Sunday league football after 16 years, when I became a Dad for the first time. I would occasionally go out for a run, but I was never consistent, a few weeks turned into months until the next one.
Lockdown, redundancy and now working from home permanently, took its toll more than I realised and it was important to put my hand up and take ownership of it.
Finding the C25K post was a lifesaver!!
I genuinely can’t thank Donna & Julia enough, or should I say my wife can’t, for giving up their time to run the group and all the striders that volunteered on the runs to support us, or torture us… Lee Casson with hill sprints at North Cliffe.
I was really surprised to complete the graduation parkrun in 24:43 having only 12 weeks early managed 32:10, the old legs were slowly remembering what to do.
It’s now the C25K 1 year anniversary and it’s been a pleasure to share that experience with some great people that have made it all the more enjoyable.
Each run has become a little easier, sometimes further. Group 1 club runs soon became group 2, and once group 3 with gentle persuasion from Richard West & Pawel Tryc. I’ve even ventured to track twice.
Your favourite race/result?
I would have to say the Yorkshireman Half, followed closely by The Chevin Chase.
Having never run more than 10 miles before and I’d only done this once, it was suggested I might like to do the Yorkshireman event, hang on I only started running 6 months earlier. Thanks to Sue Sroka and Craig Elliott for the place transfer. The cramp at 12 miles was horrendous, but for some reason I loved it!!
Finished in 03:14:21
What is the best thing about running?:
Personally the sense of calm it gives me after a hectic day at work, running with the club is great fun and rewarding. It helps hold me accountable for getting out there and getting it done.
Goals for the future?
Apart from remain injury free and off the surgeons table, to keep enjoying it.
The old competitive nature is still there, so a 23:30 parkrun target by the end of the year and I’m doing the Yorkshireman again in September, so would like a sub 3 hrs without the cramp would be nice.
PB's:
5k 23:58 (Dewsbury 10k)
Parkrun 23:57 Roberts Park
10k Dewsbury 50:01
Half 02:49:58 - part of Yorkshireman Half
Genuinely, thank you to all the striders for the support and encouragement over the last year.

January Strider of the Month
Loris Dell'Amico. Loris completed an extraordinary month in January by starting off with 1 mile on the 1st increasing by a mile a day up to and including a 31 mile run on the 31st! 476 miles in total.
