Relay Relay Relay!

Leeds Country Way 3rd Sept

This is similar to the BMWR but is a full loop around Leeds with 6 stages run in pairs. It would be good to get two teams to enter this.

*UPDATE*
We now have two complete teams and are raring to go!

More details can be found here:

Regional 6/4 Stage Road Relays

The Regional 6/4 stage road relays are taking place on Sunday 24th September in Birkenhead. These are a similar format to the 12 stage relays which have also been held previously at the same venue.
If you are interested in running or have any questions please talk to myself/Claire or any of the run leaders/commitee members to find out more.
There is full race information on the web here:

https://www.northernathletics.co.uk/.../Northern-64-Stage...

Basically it is a 5K leg and teams of 4 ladies or 6 men on a flat/traffic free route so there is plenty of potential for a PB as you would be running with some of the best runners in the North of England.

The event is already on SPOND so you can just click on there to enter or if you have'nt installed you can just reply to this email and I will add you to the list.
It is always a good day out and, as always, open to all members of the club whatever ability.

Final club event at the Rowing club

Monday 4th September at 19:00, another handicap event planned to finish off our summer season at this venue. The race will be 5km, route as previously run, but will run in an anti-clockwise direction to avoid negotiating the river path in twilight.
The bar will be open, and we ask runners to bring some buffet style food as previously, and there will be prizegiving too.
Club Championship

At the end of August we have Helen Love and Louise Nash battling it out at the top of the premier division with Stuart Dunbar waiting to pounce with a run in hand. Ian Storey continues to lead the first division with Kathleen Dixon and Jenny Shaw in hot pursuit. In the second division just 5 point separate Anne Preston and Marcus Isherwood.
Only two championship races in September, the Roberts Park parkrun on the 30th, and the Punk Panther Reservoir Dogs ultra on the 9th.

September Race Preview

The Yorkshireman Fell Race, 14.7 mile 'half' and full marathon, Sunday September 10th

Definitely one of the stand-out fell races of the year, and 15 Striders are putting in their final training ahead of the big day!
Both distances are a brutal mixture of terrains, and if the weather is wet, water and mud are most definitely on the menu. The half comprises approx 1,750 feet of climbing, and the full 3,065.

Half Marathon Route (14 Striders)
Starting at the bottom of the cobbled street in Haworth the race winds its way up to Penistone Hill before dropping down to a steep uphill track known as the Steps,  At the top comes a relatively flat section for several miles along the Conduit, before a climb towards the windfarm and half way at the former Withens pub. Then comes a road section which leads back to the moor and Yorkshire's highest point before the long descent into Oxenhope, The final 3 miles or so you're following the track next to the railway back to Haworth, and the real 'gotcha' finale up the horrendous cobbled street and right to finish at the school!

Special mention for Richard Stone, who is the sole Strider taking on the full marathon!

Club Records
Many congratulations to Sheila Pepper who completed the Fleetwood Half Marathon on August 27th in a new FV70 club record time of 2:34:04, beating her own record in the same event last year by over 5 minutes!
This was also Sheila's second fastest half. Superb effort!

The club records are now up to date on the website with as many results as we are able to ascertain.

Track Update

Our use of the track at Carlton Academy has been curtailed for the majority of August due to the 3G football pitch being replaced. We hope to re-start sessions on the first Wednesday in September and will communicate this via social media outlets.

Park Run with Tim Mosedale

Congratulations to Sylvia Ross for reaching an amazing 400 parkruns and Suzanne Hague for reaching her 300th!  I don't think anyone moved into a new milestone club in August, and I can only see one parkrun PB - Isabel Anderson with a 21:38 run at Worthing parkrun.  Three fantastic runners - well done to each of you!
I love a holiday parkrun - my last 3 parkruns have all come after sleeping in a tent - and it's been fun seeing new parkruns turning up on the list of strider runs, in far flung places. I can't list them all but these are the parkruns that have received a strider for the first time over the past 2 months:
Ashbourne Recreation Ground (Claire Bond), Catton (Helen Brant), Chipping Sodbury (Tom Kay), Durlston Country Park (Chris Hassall), Epworth Equestrian (Reyhana Laher), Frogmary Green Farm (Ewan Gibb), Hackworth (Tim Gore), Lancing Beach Green (also Helen Brant), Mote Park (Mike Moss), Mount Stuart (Ian Jenkins), Sittingbourne (also Mike Moss), Sloughbottom (also also Helen Brant), Tyne Green (Tim Mosedale), University of Northampton (Rachel Parker), Waterakkers (Norman Saldanha), and Whitstable (also Norman Saldanha).
Well done to everyone for breaking new yellow and blue ground, and frankly to anyone who got up for a 9am parkrun while on holiday!
Usual disclaimer - I think this is all correct but might not be, and sadly parkrun don't supply volunteering stats so I can only dig into the run/walk side of it.  Thank you as ever to all the volunteeers.

A big well done to Sophie Watson, who was 1st female at the Roberts Park parkrun on Saturday 26th August, and 1st Strider finisher overall, in a cracking PB time of 19:47! Well done Sophie!

Sophie powering to 1st female at Roberts Park!

July Strider of the Month

Susan Sroka. She has run 4 back to back marathons this year, Manchester, London, Leeds and a grim up North.  She has also become a run leader, encouraging all abilities to challenge themselves, including being an active member of the couch to 5k strider initiative.  She has now taken it upon herself to organise runs to encourage and support a group of striders of mixed ability to take on the Yorkshireman 15 mile half marathon, organising recce runs and supporting everyone.  She has been a strider for less than a year but encourages all abilities and supports then by arranging club runs that are inclusive and supportive of all abilities building runners confidence and enabling them to achieve whatever their running goals may be. She is fab and slightly bonkers.

All previous winners of the Strider of the Month can be found on the club website.
