Training & Nutrition with Louise Nash
Training news from Louise Nash
What a great start to the year it’s been! You’d be reading all day if I wrote about everything that’s going on and what we have planned, so I’ve limited it to a few snippets:
Beginners group – thank you, we still need you! Our beginners’ programme is now well and truly underway and proving hugely popular (over 40 beginners and returning runners!) There’s a great vibe within the group, which is down to those of you who have given up your time to turn up and support. Without overstating things, you having a positive impact on people’s lives. Thank you! We hope you’re getting something out of it too!
Of course we still need as much as help as possible to keep it going from any Strider, not just run leaders, able to turn up on a Monday/Thursday and support the leader by simply running with the group and encouraging. It doesn’t have to be a regular weekly commitment, just whatever time you can spare. Contact Donna if you’d like to be involved: DonnaMHector@aol.com
Special mentions to Donna for her superb organisation and Julia for support with leading the programme, also to Claire and Jen for help with publicity – it wouldn’t be what it is without you!
Target race: Grimsby 10k Sunday June – yes, you read it right, we’re off to Grimsby! Stewart Spink is organising this day out, including a social element – more to follow. To get you fighting fit, we’re putting together a 10k training plan (possibly plans) suitable for all levels from first timers to PB hunters looking to find that little bit extra. Keep an eye out on social media platforms (if you’re not already in these groups, ask one of the run leaders who can arrange for you to be added in):
- Facebook group “Saltaire Striders Chat”
- WhatsApp group “Saltaire Striders”
Also coming up: In addition to our usual club nights, we will be putting on some extras as the year progresses – ideas include offroad workshops, injury prevention advice and, as always, Summer away runs. Keep an eye out for details on our social media platforms above.
Monthly time trials: once a month, usually the last Weds (but this time 1 March instead of late Feb), all Striders are invited to take part in timed heats, split according to pace, of 1600m, 800m and 400m efforts. These are joint with Ilkley Harriers and take place at Carleton Keighley track. To take part just turn up to track at 19.15 (we post info on Facebook and WhatsApp.) Cost £2. Bargain.
Club coaches - our club coaches can support Striders with all aspects of running – returning from injury, improving running form, improving performance, training plans and more. Talk to any of us at training nights: Ewan Gibb, Will Kerr, Alistair Nash, Louise Nash - or message us. We can match you up with whoever will best meet your needs.
