PECO'S!

They're back! Everyone's favourite series of 5 runs, usually involving appalling weather and lots and lots of water and mud, get your mudclaws cleaned off!
These runs are great fun, and no matter how fast or slow you are, you may score points for the team. We always have a good turnout, and there's definitely chocolate at the end!
Lift sharing is available from Nuffield Shipley, and details of this will be published on the Facebook page nearer the race.

The timetable is as follows:

September Strider of the Month

Rob Henderson. For his Epic multi-day ultramarathon along the Dragons Back. One of the toughest there is, and the race is too! This is NOT a trail running event, and the course just follows summit checkpoints along the mountainous spine of Wales, where terrain is at times seriously extreme. 380km (236 mile) route is completed over 6 days. The total height gain is 17,400m (57,087 feet). The man is a phenomenon!

Congratulations Rob, a more than worthy winner.

Extraordinary General Meeting

Thank you to all the members who came to the recent Extraordinary General Meeting. The meeting as held to fulfil a commitment made at the last AGM by the committee to bring potential amendments to the constitution before the next round of committee elections. This would allow the membership to choose who elected the captains and vets captains, all members or just members in the appropriate groups.

The committee took the opportunity to make some other changes to the constitution in line with EA guidance and our own practice.

Amendment One, adding a second Welfare Officer and the role of Runs Organiser, while changing the name of the Chair of Coaches to Training and Coaching Coordinator and removing the Officer Without Portfolio was passed unanimously

Amendment Two cashing the wording used to describe the captains was passed with only one vote against.

Amendment Three, which would have opened voting on the captains to all members was defeated with 17 votes for, 20 against and 5 abstentions so the existing rules will continue to apply

The minutes of the meeting are available on the club website and the updated constitution is also there.

Annual General Meeting

Please find below the agenda for the forthcoming AGM to be held at 8.15pm on Thursday 10th of November

As usual this will be at Caroline Street Social club and will be preceded by a short social run (Starting from the Caroline Street car park at 7pm), getting back in good time for the start of the meeting. The bar will be open and we will provide one free drink per attendee.

The Committee places which are up for election this year are noted on the agenda. Please email me, with the names of your proposer and seconder, if you wish to stand for any of the posts. Nominations must be received 7 days before the AGM ie by Thursday 3rd November.

Please consider putting yourself forward. If you would like any information about any of the posts please speak to the current post holder or any committee member. As only some of the posts change over each year there will always be support from existing committee members for new recruits.

Club Training Runs

1. Monday evenings at 19:00 meeting at Caroline Street/Victoria Road, Saltaire. Four Group runs varying in distance and pace.

2. Wednesday track sessions at Keighley track are back at Carlton Keighley (formerly UAK), Green Head Rd, Keighley, BD20 6EB

We have a track share arrangement with Ilkley Harriers, each club paying half of the booking fees. Since re-starting, these sessions have proved to be very popular, regularly attracting 20+ Striders every week. This IS NOT just for the rapid runners, all capabilities are catered for!

• Start time is 7.15pm, so arrive a few minutes before, ready for warm up and drills before the main session.

• Entry has been reduced to £2 collected on attendance - please bring the correct change.

3. Thursday evenings at 19:00, starting from Nuffield Shipley
Four group runs varying in distance and pace.

Saturday/Sunday long runs

There is a closed facebook group Saltaire Marathon, Long Or Short Run Friends for people who are interested in doing some longer runs (e.g. for company for marathon training) at a steady pace. The runs are arranged via the group on an ad-hoc basis. If interested please ask to join the group.

Park Run by Tim Mosedale

The world of parkrun is full of numbers and I've stumbled across a report telling me where Striders ran/jogged/walked each week, which has led me down a parkrun rabbithole. It's a shame that there isn't a similar report for volunteers, as lots of Striders are involved that way too.
Here are a few fun facts about our local runs:

285 Striders have run at Bradford parkrun since it started, just behind Bingley (291)
116 Striders have run at Roberts Park - on top of the list but only just (Baildon have 114)
We're 2nd on the list at Horton (99), 2nd at Cliffe Castle (70) and 3rd at Myrtle (100), but only 10th at the other Bradford parkrun at Bowling park (don't tell me we're scared of that hill...?)

I don't think anyone reached a new milestone this month but of the 82 of us who ran a parkrun in October, 7 recorded overall parkrun PBs - congratulations to Aaron, Kathryn, Laurence, Lee, Loris, Marcin, and Reece. I don't know whether to be more impressed by the 3 Striders who cut a single second off their time, or Loris's 2+ minute PB after 70+ runs.
My conclusion is that we like a parkrun!

Sylvia Ross

Sylvia completed her final race before hanging up her race trainers at the Bradford City Runs on Sunday October 30th. She completed the 5k event in 42:57 and was the 2nd in her F70 category. Well done Sylvia, we'll miss seeing you in your Striders vest!
