Upcoming Race Events
  1. Run Back from Ilkley August 11th

In place of the regular club runs we are planning a run back over Ilkley Moor from the station. The plan is to catch the train from Shipley/Saltaire/Baildon to Ilkley and then run back over the moor to Baildon Station a distance of about 7-8miles (with one significant hill). Final details will be published in the week before the event.

  1. Murder Mile 3rd August

This will be hosted by Baildon Runners and will consist of a mile challenge (run in separate heats) and (hopefully a 4x400m relay). It will be held at our regular slot at the Keighley so you can see how all those hard track sessions have paid off when we beat Baildon (again)…. ;) Please enter via the link on the Facebook page.

  1. Leeds Country Way Relay 4th September

This event returns this year after a 2 year absence and so if you are interested then please give your names to one of the club captains who will be organising the teams. This is a similar format to the BMWR but consists of 6 legs. The legs are 10-12 miles but not quite as demanding as some of the BMWR legs. It would be good to get at least 2 teams together…

We currently only have about 8 entrants for this event which is not enough for a full team. It would be good to get two teams (24 runners) to represent the club in this event:

For further details visit the Yorkshire Vets website

A private facebook group exists to back up the official YVAA website by "pushing" information out to members and to encourage dialogue, comments and enquires.  Details of how to register can be found at https://www.Facebook.com/groups/3189196357821902/

We hosted leg 4 of the Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix series on July 26th. On a foul and very wet evening the race was contested by 226 runners over the usual challenging course. The first three runners home were from Stainland Lions, with the leading Strider being Martin Fillingham in 7th place. Full details appear in the results section below.
A huge thanks to all who braved the weather to organise, marshal, encourage and cater in our usual friendly manner!

June Strider of the Month

Is Tim Mosedale. Tim managed to reach the milestone of 100 different parkrun events. (Possibly the first strider to achieve this). He has travelled the UK and abroad spreading the name of Saltaire Striders at each new venue.
Congratulations Tim, a well deserved accolade!

All previous winners of the Strider of the Month can be found on the club website.

The next committee meeting will be on the 17th August. If you have anything which you wish to be discussed please contact or speak to any member of the committee.

Endure 24 Leeds

7/7/22

There were 10 striders who entered this years Endure24. The event management and sponsor changed this year but was essentially the same format as previous years. The weather was near ideal after the initial Friday afternoon/overnight showers and no repeat of the previous year’s violent thunderstorms. We all set up camp together again around the club gazebo. We bumped into former strider and Running Channel presenter Anna Harding on the Friday evening and she has posted a good summary of the ups and downs of the event from the point of view of a solo runner. This is well worth watching to get a feel for the event and features some of our own runners at the start. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY_rLRe-aUs

It really is a great event and if you are interested in doing it next year and want to find out more, please speak to one of the entrants as it would be great to do it again next year with even more Striders.

Golden Acre Park Relay:

We entered a total of 7 teams this year but for various reasons we only managed 5 on the night and had to double up on some legs. To the best of my knowledge the teams were as the results below:

There was a very strong turnout on the night from other clubs and so the vets team were unable to regain the trophy as in previous years. Having said that it was a good effort all round on a good course and lovely conditions.

To the best of my memory/strava these were the leg runners/results:

Relay V Baildon Runners:

The annual relay against Baildon runners was relocated from Esholt to the nature trail next to Roberts Park with a similar course length and elevation. The original date for the event had to be changed due to a red weather warning and was held on 20th July in somewhat cooler conditions. Only 4 teams from Saltire competed (7 from Baildon) but we still managed an overall win.

Michael Malyon won the fastest leg and Donna Kaznowski won the fastest leg for the ladies.
