Club Championship

Club championship report 2020-21-22
I have thoroughly enjoyed looking after the club championship this year.  It's great to have a good reason to look through race results for your clubmates, friends (and rivals!), seeing some really brilliant racing and reflecting on all the effort that went into those performances.  You're all amazing.  123 of you took part in at least one race, with over 400 individual performances in total!
The rules of the championship are on the website, and it basically comes down to those who run a lot of races (up to 8 of the 20 available score points for you), and is based on age grading.  While the top of the table does favour faster, prolific runners there's something there for everyone.  A walker could have finished last in every race and still finished 5th in the premier, 3rd in the first, or 1st in the second division.
Second division
Three club members hold the rare distinction of beating marathon man Marcin - who had a perfect 250 from 5 race.
Rich Sykes ran 5 of the last 7 races (plus a marathon) and is getting quicker and quicker, a force to be reckoned with in division one.
Donna Hector and Joanne Hardaker staged a running battle through the year... Joanne took an early lead, Donna levelled it off before lockdown and edged ahead with a great run at Eccup and another at Tadcaster (she must like the 10 mile distance), before a finishing sprint from Joanne at Bradford parkrun, the peco, and Keighley 10k to snatch the win.
Further honourable mentions to all the other 9 promoted runners: Graham D'Arcy, Richard Airey, Mike Moss, Tim Kay, Tim Spencer, Jen Willingham, Wendy Hey, Richard West and Anne Forster.
First division
The battle of the Bowers goes down in club history.  Had David not made it to the finish line of the last race in Keighley, Janet would have won it...  Are we sure that the injury that David came back form holiday with was an accident?! These two were pretty much within a point of each other through the season, and both have been an inspiration to many.
Another perfect scorer - with 300 points from 6 races (mostly but not wholly off road) - was Andy Brown, completing the podium.
The last three promotion spots were all taken by runners who secured their places at Keighley.  Claire Bond, Judith Nunn, and Paul Parkins all spent a morning running through scrapyards and flooded subways in order to ascend to the premier division (more than one of them carrying an injury in pursuit of that glory).
Premier division
...or Dunbar's Division, as it used to be called, having won it 4 years in a row.
Halfway through the season Stuart was only in 5th place, behind Martin Fillingham and three other top 10 finishers - Mervyn Silva, Alun Griffiths, and Nick Breare.  All three ran 8+ races, along with Claire Thaper, Suzanne Hague, me (Tim Mosedale), and Helen Love, who finished 3rd.
From that halfway point, both Stuart and Martin ran nearly every race, sharing the top two positions in almost all of them.  In the end, Martin's phenomenal 14 races, finishing top in 8 of them, resulted in a perfect 400 score and the championship victory, with the trophy travelling south of the A650 for the first time for many years.

Latest Club Championship Standings 2022-2023

Seven Striders ran the Cookridge 10k, our third championship race of the season.  Only one runner has run all three, well done to Janet Bower who now leads the Premier Division!  Graham D'Arcy and Jenny Shaw top the First and Second Divisions.
Coming up in June we have the Solstice Saunter (21 June) and the Eccup 10 (26 June).  Hope to see many of you there!

April Strider of the Month

Congratulations to Sarah Gracey Shaw. For completing her first marathon in 4:23:25 on the 3rd April at Manchester. Having followed a training plan for many weeks before the turn of the year up until March to set herself up for the best outing. Great to see others set themselves a target and devote such time and effort to reach their goals. Another super strider. She deserves recognition for her achievement.

Committee meetings

Club Training Runs / Structured Sessions

1. Monday evenings at 19:00 meeting at Caroline Street/Victoria Road, Saltaire. Four Group runs varying in distance and pace.

2. Monday return to running meeting as above

3. Tuesday structured training, meet as above at 19:30. The content of this for May will be announced on our Facebook page weekly.
        

4. Wednesday track sessions at Keighley track are back at Carlton Keighley (formerly UAK), Green Head Rd, Keighley, BD20 6EB

We have a track share arrangement with Ilkley Harriers, each club paying half of the booking fees. Since re-starting, these sessions have proved to be very popular, regularly attracting 20+ Striders every week. This IS NOT just for the rapid runners, all capabilities are catered for!

• Start time is 7.30pm, so arrive a few minutes before, ready for warm up and drills before the main session.

• Entry has been reduced to £2 collected on attendance - please bring the correct  change. 
 
5. Thursday evenings at 19:00. Please note the following alteration for the summer season:

• Thursday run venues will alternate on a weekly basis between Nuffield in Shipley, and The Woolpack Inn in Esholt.
The first run from Esholt will be on Thursday 7th April, and thereafter the 21st and so on.  
     
Saturday/Sunday long runs

There is a closed facebook group Saltaire Marathon, Long Or Short Run Friends for people who are interested in doing some longer runs (e.g. for company for marathon training)  at a steady pace.  The runs are arranged via the group on an ad-hoc basis.  If interested please ask to join the group.
