Curry Night

Spicy Striders will take place at Cardamon in Bingley on Friday 11th Feb.

Looking forward to 2022, we hope to arrange a club trip to a UK race, with food and drinks post-race. If you have any suggestions of an event which you think should be considered (ideally with at least two distance options e.g 10k and HM), please do get in touch with me or another member of the committee. And the club awards night will also take place in late-Spring/early-Summer!

Club Championship

The Peco cross country in West Park was the penultimate race of the prolonged 2020-2021-2022 club championship season. Some great performances on the day!

We hope to see as many club runners as possible at the last race, the Keighley 5k/10k on 29 March. The largest attendance at a race this season was 49 at the Solstice Saunter in 2021 - can we beat that?!

There has been action at the top and bottom of all divisions as a result of the peco:
- Martin takes a commanding lead in the premier division, with one more top placing required for a perfect 400 score
- Janet claws a point back on an injured David to level the scores in division 1
- Donna continues her serene progress to the division 1 title, but that gap could also be overturned

A final reminder - if you run a marathon or an ultra before the end of March, or you've run one since the start of 2020 and don't know if yours is on the list, let Tim Mosedale know. Your best marathon counts for club championship points.

The final race is the Keighley 10k/5k in March (Keighley 10K & 5K 2022 - RaceBest). We hope to see as many club runners there as possible.

December Strider of the Month

December's Strider of the month went to Frank Beecroft, who proved to be a very popular choice. Frank has battled injury for some time now, and still turns out regularly representing both himself and the club with determination. Congratulations!

Club Training Runs / Structured Sessions

1. Monday evenings at 19:00 meeting at Caroline Street/Victoria Road, Saltaire. Four Group runs varying in distance and pace.

2. Tuesday structured training, meet as above at 19:30. The content of this will be advised weekly.

3. Wednesday track sessions at Keighley track are back at Carlton Keighley (formerly UAK), Green Head Rd, Keighley, BD20 6EB

We have a track share arrangement with Ilkley Harriers, each club paying half of the booking fees. Since re-starting, these sessions have proved to be very popular, regularly attracting 20+ Striders every week. This IS NOT just for the rapid runners, all capabilities are catered for!

• Start time is 7.30pm, so arrive a few minutes before, ready for warm up and drills before the main session.

• Entry has been reduced to £2 collected on attendance - please bring the correct change.

4. Thursday evenings at 19:00 meeting at the Nuffield Health Centre, Shipley.
Four group runs varying in distance and pace.

Saturday/Sunday long runs

There is a closed facebook group Saltaire Marathon, Long Or Short Run Friends for people who are interested in doing some longer runs (e.g. for company for marathon training) at a steady pace. The runs are arranged via the group on an ad-hoc basis. If interested please ask to join the group.

Race Reports

The first PECO of 2022 and a club championship race brought us to West Park in Leeds on Sunday 23rd January. Jointly hosted by Horsforth Harriers and Kirkstall Harriers.

With separate starts for both the men and Ladies and some uncertainty of the start time (Cue Will and Stuart sprinting to the start !) we saw some excellent results from both teams.

The Men's teams are currently residing in 6th place in the Premier division and 3rd in the Vets Premier division . Ladies are 3rd in the First division and 7th in Vets Premier division. Overall,Men are still 4th so should be safe from relegation and Ladies are still in 2nd place and looking good for promotion to the premier League

Race #5 will be held at Roundhay Park on Sunday 20th February.
