Upcoming Events And Diary Dates
We have a number of events on the horizon for the next few months for you to get your teeth into, some don't have dates yet, but we will advise as soon as they are finalised:
1. Last run from the Rowing club, Monday September 3rd, therefore we will revert to meeting at Caroline Street the week after, 10th September.
2. Thursday 12th September, annual no watch race with Baildon and Ilkley, starting from Baildon Rugby Club.
3. October TBA, Track Murder mile at Carlton Academy, Keighley.

For details on the Club Championship, how it works, and how points are scored, please visit the website via the link below.
We have updated the scoring approach for our personality championship which runs alongside the running club championship. This celebrates the people who represent the club, from volunteering to involvement in relay and cross country teams, to Strider of the Month recognition. It's not about going fast, it's all about showing up!
The championship year runs from April to March. Scoring is as follows:
Volunteering for BMWR and John Carr (10 points each)
Volunteering for parkrun takeovers, EA 10k, and Bradford city runs (7 points each)
Running for the club (or unselected reserve) in relays such as BMWR, LCWR, Road Relays (5 points each)
Running for the club in Peco races (1 point each, bonus 5 points for all races)
Running for the club in YVAA grand prix (5 points if 2+ races run)
Strider of the Month win (10 points) or nomination (5 points, max of 15)
Championship race preview
Two races in September to get your teeth into in September:
Firstly the latest in the Punk Panther series,
Sunday 7th, the one that's close to water, perfect for beginners.
On a route devised by the Punk Panther team, Reservoir Dogs takes in beautiful waterside vistas as it passes by seven delightful reservoirs. The route takes in Lindley Wood, Swinsty, Fewston and Thruscross reservoirs, before going on to John O’Gaunt, Beaver Dyke and Scargill reservoirs; Eccup reservoir is added to the longer route, while areas of note on the trail include Stainburn Forest and Almscliffe Crag. Half marathon to ultramarathon distances, but for our club championships it's the half marathon that counts!
Next up on the 28th is the Meanwood Valley 10k Trail Race.
An undulating trail race covering approx. 7 miles of woods and parkland in Adel Woods, Scotland Woods and Meanwood Park. You will run under one of the famous "Seven Arches", past the ‘Slabbering Baby’ and through the dark spooky tunnel under the Leeds Outer Ring Road. Starts from and finishes at "Old Leo's" Rugby Club. Prizes awarded to first three over the line (M & F) and M & F age groups 40, 45, 50, 55 60, 65, 70, 75+ based on chip times.

Parkrun
25 Striders turned out at the Myrtle Park parkrun for our latest championship race, on a very warm morning the four lap course was as challenging as ever, howeverthere were some impressive performances. I'm going to be selfish here as this was my 25th parkrun!
Away Trip to Ilkley
Our annual run from Ilkley to Baildon on Yorkshire day proved to be as successful as usual with a fine turnout. The train from Baildon was taken over by us much to the amusement of commuters and conductior!
The early stage of the run back is frankly brutal, but once at the summit the 360 degree views were fantastic on a beautiful evening. Eventually we descended down into Baildon, and back to the station. A top event!
Club Handicap Race
Leg 2 of the annual handicap race took place recently, leg 1 having been completed several weeks ago when each Strider sets a 5k time. Leg 2 starts with the slowest runner going off first, with the gap between the next runner being the gap between them in leg 1.
At the end of the race the winner was Bailey Halpin, congratulations to him!
Track
A recent track session with an Olympics flavour took pace recently at the Carlton Academy, Keighley. A 4x100 metre relay race took place as the climax to the evening with teams picked randomly. You may have seen a video of Sheila Pepper being shockingly overtaken right at the end by Ali Nash, celebrating as he did! Booooo!
A great event enjoyed by all.

Club Training Runs

2. Wednesday track sessions at Keighley track are back atCarlton Keighley (formerly UAK), Green Head Rd, Keighley, BD20 6EB.
We have a track share arrangement with Ilkley Harriers, each club paying half of the booking fees. Since re-starting, these sessions have proved to be very popular, regularly attracting 20+ Striders every week. This IS NOT just for the rapid runners, all capabilities are catered for!
• Start time is 7.15pm, so arrive a few minutes before, ready for warm up and drills before the main session.
• Entry has been reduced to £2 collected on attendance - payment now by card, no cash please!
3. Thursdayevenings at 19:00, starting from Nuffield Shipley
Four group runs varying in distance and pace.
4. MONTHLY STRUCTURED TRAINING SESSION.
Our next monthly structured training session led by Richard West will take place on a Monday TBA.
