Annual Awards Night

Our annual awards evening will take place on Saturday 7th May at the Northcliffe Golf Club. Save the date!

Curry Night

The next Spicy striders night will be at Janis in Baildon on Friday 11th March at 8pm. Meet at the Malt Shovel for drinks at 7pm. Please complete the form below if interested.

An 'away' Parkrun has been planned for Nostell Priory on Saturday 12th March. Meet at Nuffield Shipley for car sharing at 07:30.

We are looking for at least one male and one female team but it would be great to have two teams for each event so please consider if you would like to do this, the club will provide places for up to 4 teams (2 male and 2 ladies) and there will be transport available. We are aware that it is Mothers day and there is also the Keighley 10K the same day but it is possible to combine these things...

No changes from the last newsletter, so all positions remain unchanged. The last qualifying race is detailed below!

A final reminder - if you run a marathon or an ultra before the end of March, or you've run one since the start of 2020 and don't know if yours is on the list, let Tim Mosedale know. Your best marathon counts for club championship points.

The final race is the Keighley 10k/5k in March (Keighley 10K & 5K 2022 - RaceBest). We hope to see as many club runners there as possible.

January Strider of the Month

The January SOTM is NIGEL PEPPER. Many of you will know Nigel for his race photographs, which are much appreciated, not just by Saltaire Strider runners, but runners from all clubs within Yorkshire.
He is a great supporter of both his wife, and recent SOTM winner Sheila, and Saltaire Striders.
Nigel is a worthy winner and we salute you!

Club Training Runs / Structured Sessions

1. Monday evenings at 19:00 meeting at Caroline Street/Victoria Road, Saltaire. Four Group runs varying in distance and pace.

2. Tuesday structured training, meet as above at 19:30. The content of this will be advised weekly.

3. Wednesday track sessions at Keighley track are back at Carlton Keighley (formerly UAK), Green Head Rd, Keighley, BD20 6EB

We have a track share arrangement with Ilkley Harriers, each club paying half of the booking fees. Since re-starting, these sessions have proved to be very popular, regularly attracting 20+ Striders every week. This IS NOT just for the rapid runners, all capabilities are catered for!

• Start time is 7.30pm, so arrive a few minutes before, ready for warm up and drills before the main session.

• Entry has been reduced to £2 collected on attendance - please bring the correct change.

4. Thursday evenings at 19:00 meeting at the Nuffield Health Centre, Shipley.
Four group runs varying in distance and pace.

Saturday/Sunday long runs

There is a closed facebook group Saltaire Marathon, Long Or Short Run Friends for people who are interested in doing some longer runs (e.g. for company for marathon training) at a steady pace. The runs are arranged via the group on an ad-hoc basis. If interested please ask to join the group.

Race Reports

Peco XC Race 5

The final race in the Peco XC season was held at Roundhay park last weekend. The conditions were probably slightly worse than they were 2 years ago when it was called off...the threatened storms were not as bad as predicted though.

A crowded downhill mass start was quickly followed by the ascent of the notorious hill 60 which spread out the field into the windy soldiers field. From there we headed back through the tree lined routes and onto the windy River trail which was shortened due to a fallen tree. The last mile loop back to the finish seemed long and heavy underfoot.

Nick Hardy was the first male strider home (3^rd overall) and Josie the first lady. A strong effort by the other top 6 placed females: Alice Lilley, Jen Willingham, Claire Bond, Tracy Foy and Helen Love ensured that the ladies gained qualification to the premier league. It’s not just about the top 6 (or 9 for the men) as, for example, Shelia Pepper held off the last remaining senior Wetherby ladies to help the ladies secure a strong finish in the Ladies Vets premier league. The male vets held on to the Premier league title but only just as they finished level with Valley Striders but took the prize on countback so points really do make all the difference. On the day the other male scorers were Andy Brown,Will Kerr, Andy Bedford, Martin Fillingham, Stuart Dunbar, John Singh, Loris Dell’Amico and Andrew Pine.

Well done to all that have taken part in the Peco season whether you have only managed one race or done all 5 and remember there is still the relay completion on 13^th March and also an awards night at the end of March.
