With two races left, the club championship is very close at the top of both premier and first divisions, with battles between Martin Fillingham & Stuart Dunbar, and between David & Janet Bower.  There is also the potential for a lot of movement in the promotion/relegation zones - a single race could make all the difference!
 
The final races are the peco cross country in West Park in January, and the Keighley 10k/5k in March (Keighley 10K & 5K 2022 - RaceBest). We hope to see as many club runners there as possible.

December Peco Races:
 
December was a busy month for the Peco XC season with two races being held, the first at Temple Newsam:
A blustery day called for extra guy ropes to be fitted to the Gazebo on the windswept grounds of Temple Newsam as a series of squally showers proceeded to batter us prior to the race start in front of the house. There was as separate start for the men and ladies to avoid the congestion that happened at the first race. After a lap of the field it was off into a new part of the estate which was part of the golf course. After an long open section there was quite a wide water jump which widened considerably as more people attempted to jump it and inevitably got wet legs.. The route ran alongside the M1 briefly before returning to more familiar ground. There were a couple of hills to climb before the final slog around the field to the finish.  
Our second claim hero Nick Hardy came in second and Josie Cram came in at a very respectable 8^th -this time we were able to claim the points. There were 11 Ladies and 24 male striders taking part and 6 podium places for age categories. The men were fourth overall in the premier division and the ladies 3^rd in the first division. In the Vets league the men were the top placed club while the ladies were 10^th in a very tight league.
 
The second Peco race in December saw a return to Middleton Park on the Sunday before Christmas so Santa Hats and Mince Pies were the order of the day. Thankfully there was no repeat of the mix up of the first race and a different (anti-clockwise) route was used with the usual excursions into the woods. The ground was quite heavy and so shoe choice was important, there were no real hazards but quite a lot of mud.
There were roughly the same number of striders taking part but no Hardy/Cram double act this time so our first place male was the evergreen Andy Brown while the ladies had the fresh faced Helga Tolentino. The men slipped to 5^th place in the premier league largely due to Wharfedale Harriers fielding a very strong side. The ladies managed a very respectable 2^nd place overall and 5^th in the Vets table.
After 3 races the men are fourth in the premier league and the women are in 2^nd place in the first division and still on track for promotion back to the premier league. The next race in the Peco season is on 23^rd Jan at West Park. It is also a club championship so it is definitely worth being there.
