November featured race

Peco race 1 - Middleton Park 14th Nov.

The Peco cross-country/trail races are the highlight of the winter season and are usually 4-5 miles, the first race is usually the biggest of the 5 races.  The venue for the 1st race is Middleton Park in Leeds with parking at the John Charles South Leeds Stadium (head to White Rose centre then down Dewsbury Road towards Leeds and follow signs). 11:00 start.

Details of the course can be found on the peco xc website

We usually meet at Nuffield and car share to the venue. If you're going straight there look out for the Saltaire Striders gazebo and get there in time for the team huddle.

The course will be something like:

Fast grassy start in the field above the woods, mud, perhaps a short stretch of tarmac, mud, maybe a tricky technical section, mud, a short steep hill, mud, a second lap, mud, some tree roots, mud fast grassy finish, chocolate!

Remember to bring a change of kit/shoes because did we mention there might be some MUD.

The men are competing in the premier division with 9 men to count to the team score and the ladies are in the first division with 7 ladies to count.

Currently we have 14 ladies and 31 men entered for the series but there is still time to get your entry in before noon on 12th Nov.

PECO XC League Race 1 - Entry Form - RaceBest

Next up is the Guy Fawkes 10m followed by the Tadcaster 10m

2021 Club AGM and Committee places

The Club AGM will be held  at Caroline Street Social Club on Thursday 11th Nov.  Club training that night will be out and back runs from Caroline Street,

This year the following posts are coming up for election:

Treasurer
Ladies Captain,
Membership Officer,
Communications Officer
Male Vets Captain
John Carr chair (not Management Committee posts).

The current Treasurer (Richard Stone), Communications Officer (Jack Verity) and Male Vets Captain (Martin Love) are not eligible to stand again so we must find a new member for these positions.  Also, the Ladies captain (Helen Brant), and membership secretary (Mervyn Silva) have indicated that they will not be standing for re-election so these positioms will also need to be filled.

Getting involved with the running of the club is a rewarding experience. If you think you might like to be involved, and want to know more details of what is involved in a particular role please talk to the current post holders, or any committee member - with no obligation!

Pecos are coming

For the new members, and those who haven't done them before, these are a series of 5 trail races (4 - 5 miles) which are the highlight of the winter.  The provisional dates and venues are:

14th Nov. Middleton Park, Leeds
5th Dec. Temple Newsam
19th Dec. Middleton Park, Leeds (Different course to race 1)
23rd Jan. West Park/Becketts Park, Leeds
20th Feb. Roundhay Park, Leeds
The clubs affiliated to the League compete across men's and ladies divisions. The simplest way to enter is to buy a season ticket online in advance for just £15, which provides entry to all five races. Once registered and paid for, you will not need to register again all season. You will collect your season race number at the first race you attend and then you just turn up to each race with your number and run.  Members are encouraged to enter before the 31st Oct. to receive a personalised chip timing number.

Alternatively you can enter each race on the day. The cost to enter each race individually on the day is £7. All entrants will be allocated a race number (with timing chip) which they must keep for the whole season. Replacements for lost or damaged numbers can be purchased at Race HQ for £3 for seniors.

RULES FOR ENTRY:

1. The league is exclusive to the clubs that are members of the PECO XC league.

2. All competitors must be paid up members of a club which is affiliated to England Athletics at the time of the race.

3. Club members should be affiliated to England Athletics at the time of the race and should wear their official club vest.

IF YOU CHOOSE TO ENTER ON THE DAY, then you will be defined as a "guest" and will not contribute to your team score, or be eligible for points in the individual series competition. Only advance entries will be League "counters".

September Strider of the Month
All previous winners of the Strider of the Month can be found on the club website.
Craig Elliott -  Craig ran the Leeds half and then added a loop of 7 miles on to complete a long run as part of his London marathon preparations, at mile 18 Craig had, had enough and decided that was enough for him.  But then Craig came across a complete stranger, who was struggling to finish the half marathon. He ran with her right to the finish line, encouraging her to carry on right to the finish. Craig showed this lady the true strider spirit.  Also for all the help, advice and motivation he has given to fellow striders preparing for the London marathon.
Committee meetings

The next committee meeting will be held later in the year after the AGM  - if you have anything which you wish to be discussed please contact or speak to any member of the commitee.

All previous committee meeting and AGM minutes dating back to 2009 are available to view on the club web site
