February featured race

Peco Cross Country League race 4 - 8th Feb.

The penultimate race in the Peco series is at West Park, Leeds on 8th Feb. Separate races for men (11:00) and Ladies (11:10) with a one lap 5 mile route.  The route is all off road.  There is a mixture of football fields, fast parkland and rough woodland sections.  There are a couple of short hills but nothing too testing.

The conditions underfoot could be very muddy depending on the weather in the next week.

There is no designated car parking, there is good on-street parking available around the Dalesman Pub, Butcher Hill and the streets off the top of Spen Lane, There is also street parking behind the fields (see map) and on Queenswood Drive  – just below the playing fields. Do not park on Spen Lane as this is a busy, narrow road and is on a bus route.  You can also park on the roads around West Park (LS16 5QR puts you in the vicinity) and walk across the fields to the start area (do not walk across football pitches).

Toilet facilities will be available in the Dalesman Pub only. Please leave these as you would wish to find them.  There will be food in Dalesman afterwards.

In the premier league the men are currently comfortably placed 3rd behind Valley Striders and Roundhay Runners and leading the vets league,  the ladies are 4th in the 1st division and 5th in the vets premier league.  On the individual front Andy Brown  and Stuart Dunbar are leading in the V50 and V55 categories and Will Kerr and Martin Fillingham are 2nd in the V40 and V45 categories, Helen Love is 3rd in the F60 category.

The last race in the series is on 1st March at Roundhay Park.
March featured race

Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k - 15th March

Starting in Bradford City centre near the City hall the route heads out on closed roads to Little Germany with a short climb up Vicar Lane before heading down Church Bank and out to Canal Road and Shipley Airedale Road.  At Stanley road there is another slight rise into Bolton Woods before returning to Canal Road and heading towards Shipley on Valley Road.  Turning round in Valley road you then head back to Bradford past the side of Broadway and finishing along Market Street back to City Park.

The race  is a firm fixture in the local running diary and has sold out for the last 3 years.  Last year over 60 Striders took part in the race with many more out on the course marshalling.

December Strider of the Month
Tim Baldwin - Led the Striders home in both of the first 2 Peco races in a fine 7th place.  Then absolutely smashed the club 10k record at Ribble Valley improving his PB by nearly 2 minutes with a superb time of 31:33 (his half way time would have broken the 5k record as well)!!  He also ran a 16:01 at Podium 5k at the end of November. It's fair to say he's now replaced Will Kerr as 'Top Dog' and is an all round nice guy.
