Each year we make donations to charities
from the profits from the John Carr 5k series, in recent years we have asked club members
to make nominations for charities they would like us to help. Last year the
Greenwood centre at Swain House (who have provided accommodation and hospitality for our
Dutch visitors to the Bradford Millennium Way relay) received money to help with
projects. Andy Hudson and Paul Watts both received donations for Martin House
hospice - their chosen charities for the Great North run. So if you have a favourite
charity please send your nomination to Jack
Verity
We have
been accepted into the Peco cross-country league for 2009/10. The series consists of
5 races:
Sun 8th Nov. At Golden Acre Park hosted by Abbey
Runners/Valley Striders
Sat. 5th
Dec. At Hunger Hill/Trinity and All Saints College hosted by Horsforth Harriers/Kirkstall
Harriers
Sun 17th
Jan. Nell Bank hosted by Ilkley Harriers
Sun 31st
Jan. John Smeaton college Leeds, hosted by St. Theresas AC
Sun 7th
Mar. At Emmanuel College, Thackley hosted by Eccleshill Road Runners
The league is made up of 2 leagues the 1st division and
the premier league, as newcomers we will be starting in the 1st division and
the ladies will be competing against Valley Striders, Airecentre Pacers, St.
Theresas, Eccleshill Road Runners, Ackworth, Horsforth Fellandale, Woodkirk Harriers
and York Postal. The opposition for the men will be Woodkirk Harriers, Kirkstall
Harriers, Airecentre Pacers, Dragons, Eccleshill Road Runners, Kippax Harriers, York
Postal and Hosforth Fellandale.
For ladies
the scoring is the first 4 ladies from each club to finish and for the men the first 8
men. The scoring is 1 point for the race winner, 2 for second, etc. The club
with the lowest score being the winners. The scoring for the 1st division and
the premier league are not separated out. The winning club in each race then gets 1 point,
second 2 points, etc. And the points are tallied for the 5 races, in the event of a tie
the clubs total individual scores over the 5 races is taken into account.
So make a
note of Nov 8th in your diary and lets get off to a flying start!
The
organisers of the Bradford 10 miles race on 18th October are looking for
volunteers to help with drinks stations, relay changeovers (also includes 4 x 2.5 mile
relay) and handing out goody bags at the finish. If you can spare a few hours on the
morning of 18th - the race starts at 10:30, please let Dave Armstrong know.
Club meal Dick Hudsons Sun 18th Oct.
Shirley is organising a meal in the evening after the Bradford 10 mile race. The meal is at 7:00 at Dick Hudsons at High Eldwick. If you want to be included please let Shirley know.
This years Calderdale Way relay will take place on Sunday 13th December. We have entered 2 Airedale Athletics teams. If you are interested in running in this event then please let Will Kerr know. We are intending to use the Guy Fawkes 10 (from Ripley Castle) on Sun 1st Nov. And the Peco Leagure race on the 8th Nov as pairings races so it would be good if you can do either of these races but it is not essential.
It would
be good if we could get a few members of the club qualified for first aid cover for
training nights (both at Esholt and Greens) and to cover the John Carr races and the
Bradford Millennium Way relay. I have identified some courses which take place in
Bolton over 2 days on a weekend, if you would be interested in going on one of these
courses then please let me know (Jack
Verity). The cost of the courses will be covered by the club (possibly with a
grant from the Bradford Athletics network) going on the course doesnt mean you are
committing yourself to be at every training night and every race but obviously we would
expect some commitment in return for the investment. Once I have some volunteers I
will communicate possible dates.
