St. Bede's e-news

Abbey Dash

A good turn out from the club with 18 members completing in the field of nearly 4000 runners.  Good improvements by Jude Breen 64:00 (4:51 improvement) and Donna Line 58:02(3:04 improvement).  Simon Forde was first man home from the club in 35:42 placing 5th in the V45 class and Mike Mahoney finished 4th in the V70 class in 50:46.

2nd West Yorkshire Winter League Race - Temple Newsham

Another good turnout, with Tracy Denby improving 3 places on the first race to finish 7th lady.  Tracy is now placed 6th lady in the series after 2 races with Helen love in 24th being the first lady 45.   Andy Hudson improved dramatically from the first race moving up 34 places and now leads the competition for most improved male over the series.

On the team from we are in 6th place in the mens and ladies categories, but 7th in the combined mens & ladies and 4th in the vets.  The next race in the series is being organised by Dewsbury (exact location to be advised) on the 7th January - we need another good turnout to keep up our position and close the gap on the teams in front.

Calderdale Way Relay

The second team finished 65th, the first team 73rd and the 3rd team 94th out of 99 teams.  Unfortunately Will suffered a disaster on the first leg for the A team and was suffering from hypothermia when he finished.  Thankfully he is making a good recovery.  Thank you to everyone who took part and to those who were on standby for a last minute call up.  Simon Forde and Duncan Asquith did particularly well finishing 23rd fastest on the tough 4th leg

Bradford Airedale handicap

Following the successful inclusion of 5 members of Bradford Airedale in our Calderdale Way relay teams, and cementing our close relationship with them, we have been invited to take part in their Christmas handicap on Sunday 17th Dec.  The race starts at 11:00 from the top of Cemetery Road on Halifax Road (just up from their headquarters at Horsfall).  It is a 4 mile handicap on the road going on to Odsal and up to Wibsey returning via Cooper Lane and Halifax Road.   Everyone is welcome, you should take a wrapped Christmas present to the value of about £5 and will receive a present back - there will be refreshments after the event.   Steve Wolstenholme would like to know peoples times for 4 miles beforehand if possible but it should be O.K. to turn up on ther day.  Eccleshill Runners have also been invited to take part. stephen@kestrelmount.freeserve.co.uk

St. Bede's Christmas Buffet

On Tuesday 19th Dec. we will be having our Christmas buffet after a short run.  Everyone is welcome including partners - please bring along a plate of food to share.

Forthcoming Events

There are a number of races coming up over the festive period.  There is the 4 mile Bradford Airedale Handicap or the Stoop fell race at Penistone Hill on Sunday 17th.  The Chevin Chase on Boxing day is full.   There is the Coley Canter from Shelf on the 30th or the Hot Toddy 5.8 mile road race at Todmorden and the Auld Lang Syne from Penistone Hill on New Years Eve.

The Baildon Boundary way on 1st April is now 70% full so if you intend doing it get your entry in soon.

Sunday Runs

Sunday runs have taken a bit of a back seat over the last few weeks with all the races.  If anyone fancies a run on Sunday 24th Dec. we are planning to meet at Greens at 9:00.  I am suggesting running up to Esholt then running round the proposed route for our winter league race in February.   If anyone wants a shorter run they could meet us on the filter beds road at 9:30 and just run round the course (about 5 miles).  Greens should be open but if not we can just meet outside.

Also, if anyone fancies a run on 31st Dec again meet at Greens at 9:00.

Have a good Christmas and New Year and don't overdo it on the Turkey and Mince Pies - (that includes you Mr. Jones)!
