West Yorkshire Winter League

The 5 races for this years winter league are as follows:

Sun 19th Nov. - Idle (new course in Buck Wood)
Sun 3rd Dec. - Temple Newsham
Sun 7th Jan - Dewsbury (possibly new course at Oakwell Hall)
                                                            Sun 28th Jan - Baildon (1:00 p.m. start)
                                                            Sun 18th Feb - Esholt

All the races start at 11:00 (except Baildon) and are usually 5 to 6 miles in length over cross-country.  They are open to anyone from the club to take part in and are free to enter just turn up and run - the more people that take part the better.  There are prizes in all age categories and also for most improved male and female over the 5 races series, however you do need to complete all 5 races to be eligible for a prize.   There will also be a captains award for the best performance by a St. Bede's male and female in the series, this won''t necessarily be the highest placed runner but could be the most improved, the one covered in the most mud! etc.

We need 7 men and 3 ladies to count for the team in each race.  In previous years we have suffered from not having enough counters in one or more races so please make an effort to turn out.

We are organising the race on 18th Feb so volunteers will also be required for marshalling as well as runners.  There is also a presentation evening on the 9th of March which we should make an effort to support as a club - this is likely to be at Victoria Hall, Saltaire, further details nearer the time.

Sunday Runs

Graham has negotiated with Greens to allow us to use their facilities for Sunday runs.  The first run will be on Sunday 22nd Oct. at 9:00.   This will be a very steady run of about 1 hour. Afterwards we can use the showers, swimming pool, Jacussi, etc.  Thursday night training sessions at Greens continue to be very popular and again all facilities are available to anyone.

Other forthcoming events

AGM

The club Annual General Meeting will take place at Esholt on Tuesday 21st November at about 8:30 (after a short run).  This is you chance to have a say in how the club is run, make suggestions for improvements or even to join one of the committees that organise events throughout the year - again please make an effort to attend.

Leeds Abbey dash

Sunday 26th November - entries still open. Carol and Rita are organising a post race cool down in the evening at the Aagrah.

Calderdale Way relay

The Calderdale Way relay is on Sunday 10th Dec.  we have 2 confirmed teams of 12 entered and will probably enter a 3rd team in conjunction with Bradford Airedale.  Please let me know ASAP if you are available to run so that we can organise the best pairings and recce runs.

For those who have never done this race, it is a relay over 60 miles round the Calderdale way split into 6 sections with runners running in pairs.  The legs vary in length with most being between 8 and 11 miles (leg 3 being the exception at about 5 miles).   Because of the time of year you are required to carry cagoule, overtrousers, hat, gloves, whistle, compass and map

Christmas Buffet

The traditional Christmas buffet will be held on Tuesday 19th December after a training run - everyone brings along a plate of something (sandwiches, caviar, mince pies, etc.).

Chevin Chase

Entry forms are now available for this popular Boxing Day race - get your entry in early to avoid disappointment.
