St. Bede's A.C. E-News

John Carr 5k series

2 down, 1 to go!  A big thank you to everyone who has helped with the organisation and marshalling of the races. They seem to have been a big success again and very popular, for the first race we had to turn some runners away.

One final effort required for the last race then its on to the Millennium way relay, then a well deserved rest!

Club Championship

We have now completed 2 races in both the off-road and 10k categories. The leaders so far are:

Off-road 1. Nicola Hudson, 2. Ruth Murphy 3. Andy Hudson
10k 1. Andy Hudson +3:15, 2. Judith Nunn +1:20, 3 Donna Line +1:16

Remember you only need to complete 2 races in any category to count in that category so there is still plenty of time to get yourself on the leader board.  The next championship race is on the 11th June and is the Birkenshaw Fire Brigade 5 mile which will be the second race in the 5 mile category.  Unfortunatley, this also clashes with the Thirsk 10 mile which was supposed to be the first 10 mile championship race so we will have to find an alternative to that, watch this space!

Summer 3 mile series

Tuesday 2nd May saw the second of the summer 3 miles runs, with the first John Carr race the following day.

Unfortunately of the 16 members who have done both races so far only 3 (not counting Graham) have shown an improvement!  The leaders are:

1. Jude Breen +1:43 (so Grahams pacing is having some effect) 2. Dave Armstrong +0:47 3. Diane Craven +0:04

The recent heavy racing schedule seems to be catching up with the Murphys with Ruth slowing by 3:39 and Vince by 3:20

Race results

Meanwood Valley Trail race

125 Andrew Armstrong 60:44, 139 Dave Armstrong 61:46, 210 Vince Murphy 68:30, 227 Ruth Murphy 70:32,
257 Mick Mahoney 72:38, 279 Judi Evans 76:45

Contrary to rumour (and the results) it wasn't Mick Jones that finished 2 places in front of Andy Armstrong.

Yorkshire vets Race 3 - Meltham

5 Pete Pyrah 40:43, 28 Harry McGill 46:43, 36 Pete Huby 49:58, 42 Barney Lerner 51:20, 44 Mick Jones 52:14,
46 Vince Murphy 53:16, 49 Mick Twyman 53:55.

Ladies: 6. Helen Love 50:46, 12 Ruth Murphy 59:02

A busy weekend for the Murphy's.  Barney subsequently put himself forward (unwittingly) for the most bizarre injury of the year award - damaging his cruciate ligaments whilst walking across Leeds station!

Guiseley Gallop

53 Jack Verity 42:21, 63 Andy Hudson 43:48, 69 Greg Collet 44:00, 167 Vince Murphy 49:50, 176 Diane Craven 50:19,
180 Dave Armstrong 50:23, 248 Mick Jones 54:04, 299 Ruth Murphy 56:54, 342 Nicola Hudson 58:43

Now taking bets on how long it is before Andy beats me in a proper race!

London Marathon

Well done to everyone from the club who completed the London Marathon in very respectable times, Ruth's strategy of racing herself into shape obviously paid off!

Shilrey Quarmby 3:58:08, Ruth Murphy 4:14:00, Tony Hart 4:39:54, Jayne hart 4:59:28

Is it just me or does the BBCs coverage of the marathon get worse.  It realy annoys me when they span across the skyline watching rain drops runs down the camera when we're supposed to be following the marathon.  Then in the mens race right at the vital moment when the leading pack is breaking up they lose their signal!  Rant over.

Rothwell 10k

45 Pete Pyrah (3rd Yorks vet 50) 36:23, 116 Andy Hudson 39:10, 163 Harry McGill 40:41, 194 Graham Eastell 41:27
288 Andrew Bailey 44:35, 338 Pete Huby 46:12, 476 Rachel Bailey 50:47, 559 Judith Nunn 54:15, 664 Donna Line 61:06

John Carr series race 1 (inc. Yorks vets championship)

180 Helen Love 21.36, 195 Richard Thompson 22.03, 218 Pete Huby 22.46, 226 Mick Twyman 23.00, 262 Judi Evans 24.37,
267 Rachel Bailey 24.55, 289 Judith Nunn 25.37,  303 Michelle Smith 26.33, 341 Donna Line 29.48, 345 Maggie Davies 30.06,
348 Colin Huntley 30.18, 363 Sue Hastwell-Gibbs 36.09, 364 Jude Breen 37.06

Not bad 17 members running as well as all the members and friends marshalling an officiating.

Pete Pyrah finished 2nd V50 and Helen Love just missed out on the medals finishing 4th F45

Leeds Half Marathon

447 Joe Masley 1:37:54, 476 Vince Murphy 1:38:28, 567 Frank Masley 1:40:38. 1229 Ruth Murphy 1:51:27
1740 Kate Bambrough 1:58:53, 2164 Gemma Moody 2:03:19, 2230 Sarah Buckley 2:05:47

Well done to Gemma and Sarah on completing their first half marathon.

213 Mick Twyman 22.41, 214 Pete Huby 22.43, 215 Louise McGechan 22.43, 256 Judi Evans 25.09, 257 Rachel Bailey 25.10
264 Michelle Smith 25.29, 274 Judith Nunn 26.00, 321 Colin Huntley 28.57, 325 Donna Line 29.41, 332 Maggie Davies 30.25
335 Sue Hastwell-Gibbs 34.15, 338 Jude Breen 37.12

After 2 races newcomer Tracy Denby is placed 8th overall with Judi Evans 8th F40, Helen Love 4th F45 and Maggie Davies 6th F55.

For the men Andy Hudosn is 8th M35 and Colin Huntley 2nd M70.
