Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k – Sunday 20th April

We are still short of volunteers to help marshall this new event.  It starts at 9:00 from Centenary Square and goes out and back on Canal Road.  If you can spare a couple of hours please let either me or Dave Armstrong know ASAP.

John Carr 5K Series - Good causes

The John Carr 5k series is coming up in May - we usually raise in excess of £1,000 for charity and now is your chance to have a say in which charities the money should go to.  This could be a charity which you have close links to through family or could be a charity who you are planning to run the London marathon or Gt. North run for or any cause which you feel deserves our support.  Last years recipients included MENCAP (Andy Hudsons chosen charity for the London Marathon), The Daisy Charity appeal, Calder Valley fell rescue (Will Kerrs chosen charity after the Calderdale Way Relay!!!) and Bingley Blind Welfare.

Please provide details of your proposed charity to myself or Mike Moss before the end of April.

Greens Support

Greens continue to provide us with excellent support for our events and for our running group on Thursdays and Sundays.  Don't forget anyone can come down on Thursdays for the run from Greens and stay afterwards for a swim, sauna or Jacussi (or all three).  Greens are providing numbers for the John Carr 5k series and the Bradford Millennium way relay (which will also allow runners a day pass into Greens) and allowing us to use the facilities to entertain our visitors over the weekend of the Bradford Millennium Way relay, including a BBQ in the evening on Sunday 15th June to which all club members are invited.

Greens are also providing Corporate membership to members of St. Bede's who join the gym a saving of £14 a month.

Sportshoes Unlimited and Complete Runner support

Sportshoes Unlimited and Complete Runner are also supporting the John Carr 5k series and the Bradford Millennium Way relay with contributions towards the prizes to be presented - so please bear this in mind when making your running purchases and support our sponsors.

Bradford Millennium Way relay - Sunday 15th June

As many of you will know the Bradford Millennium Way relay requires a great deal of effort to organise from many members of the club and doesn't just include organising the race itself.  With 4 teams from Belgium and Holland arriving Friday morning and going back Monday tea-time there is a whole weekend of transportation and hospitality to organise, including course recce's on Friday afternoon, pub meal Friday evening, Saturday entertainment and Pasta party in the evening, BBQ on Sunday and entertainment on Monday. All club members and partners are invited to take part in any or all of the activities.

As for the race itself we need teams of marshalls at the 4 handovers as well as the start and finish and to man 8 drinks stations around the course!  Plus we like to try and enter a team or 2 of our own in the race!!

So, put the weekend of Friday 13th June - Monday 16th June in you diary now.  Please let me know if you are able to help out in any way at any time over the weekend and also if you are interested in running in the race.

Belgium Trip 2008

This years trip to Belgium will be over the weekend on Friday 1st August - Monday 4th August.  We fly from Leeds/Bradford airport at 18:00 on Friday and arrive back at 21:00 on Monday evening.  In between times we drink lots of booze, eat plenty of good food, see a little bit of Belgium (oh and there's a race on the Saturday afternoon!).  Past trips have also included tandem rides, canoing, visits to the Nike factory, visiting a former concentration camp and vists to Antwerp.

This years race will be a 3 x 7k multi-terrain relay organised by our friends at AVOS.  I've checked on Jet2 and the prices are currently £75 for return flights.  We also have to pay for the minibus from Amsterdam to Turnhout and train back (about £30) and for a couple of meals over the weekend. Accommodation is provided by the AVOS members in their own homes.

If you are interested in going on this years trip then please let me know ASAP (including the name on your passport) members and partners are most welcome.  The sooner we book the cheaper it will be.

London Marathon

Good luck to Will Kerr, Mick Brearley and Tracy Denby taking part in this weekends London Marathon.

Baildon Boundary Way

Another good turn out of St. Bede's runners and walkers with 12 men and 4 ladies in the race and 4 ladies opting for the walk.  Will Kerr had a nice warm up for London finishing in 7th place.  The links below link to photos of Bede's members
