St. Bede's e-news

Happy new year to everyone, hope your fit and well and ready to crack all those targets you've set yourself!

West Yorkshire Winter League

The 3rd race in the series takes place this Sunday at Oakwell Hall Country Park (organised by Dewsbury).  It is important we get a good turnout to try and close the gap on the teams in front of us.  In the men's competition we are 99 points behind Idle in 5th and 140 points behind Baildon who are 4th.  In the vets catregory we are only 25 points off 3rd spot and in the ladies we are 32 points down on Idle in 5th and 52 points behind Skipton who are 4th.

To get to Oakwell Hall take the A650 Wakefield Road out of Bradford, at Tong cemetery/Yorkshire Martyrs Collge take the right fork on the A651 to Birkenshaw.   Go through Birkenshaw and take a left turn A652 to Batley/Birstall/Dewsbury.   Oakwell Hall is on the left shortly after taking the left turn.  Details of the course can be found on this link http://www.dewsburyroadrunners.co.uk/cgi/story.php?index=121

The 4th race is on Sunday 28th Jan. hosted by Baildon (with a 1:00 start) and the 5th and final race is hosted by ourselves at Esholt on 18th Feb.  Details of the proposed course can be found in the diary section of our web site http://www.stbedesac.org.uk/WYWL/course2006.html.   We will need volunteers to help marshall, mark out the course in the morning, server tea/coffee and soup and also probably organise a raffle so if you can help please let me know.

Chevin Chase

Another good turn out for the club, good to see Andy Armstrong hasn't turned into a southern softie, giving his dad a good beating.  A very good performance from Vince knocking over 6 minutes off last years time and Ruth knocking almost 5 minutes off last years time.

35th Duncan Asquith 45:34,  50th Jack Verity 46:29, 84 Bob Pritchard 48:08, 121 Andy Hudson 49:51, 123 Greg Collett 49:53, 172 Mick Brearley 51:38, 189 Neil Lloyd 52:24, 228 Matthew Allen 53:48, 261 Andrew Armstrong 54:57, 319 Pete Huby 56:58, 326 Dave Armstrong 57:16, 349 Vince Murphy 57:46, 360 Graham Eastell 58:06, 448 Ian Howdin 61:04, 471 Ruth Murphy 61:55,560 Nicola Hudson 65:02.

Some people then went and did Coley Canter 4 days later with heavy conditions but I haven't found any results yet for that, and some even went and did Auld Lang Syne the next day as well!

Subscriptions

The annual subscriptions of £15 are now due, please see Carol.  For those that don't attend regularly on Tuesday nights please send a cheque made payable to St. Bedes A.C. to Carol Raistrick.

Club Dinner

The annual club dinner will take place on Saturday 24th Feb. - which is fast approaching, at Baildon Golf club.  Rita and Carol are now taking names.

Route Measuring

Martin Love has sent me details of some route measuring software which is quite good http://www.london-marathon.co.uk/routeplanner/index.php it allows you to plot your route using either a map or satellite and to save and share your routes.  You can search for routes under a given post code.  If you search for Bd you'll find a route round Northcliffe (presumably Martin's) an easy 5 round Eccleshill which looks like one of Chris Smiths, routes in Wilsden, Queensbury, Skipton and the course for the winter league at Esholt
