November featured race

Peco League Race 1, Temple Newsam, 24th Nov.

For Peco races we usually meet at Nuffield for car sharing (to be advised via e-mail in the week before the event).  The first race in the Peco series is usually the busiest but there is plenty of parking at Temple Newsam for those wanting to make their own way there.

There are usually separate starts for men and ladies with the ladies setting off 10 minutes after the men and the men kindly churn up the course for the ladies.  Temple Newsam includes a good downhill section in the first mile but then is followed by a longish uphill slog.  The terrain is woodlands, farm tracks and some mud.  The last mile includes a sting in the tail with a challenging climb (different path, but same climb as you go down in first mile).

PECO Cross-Country League

The most popular cross country league in West Yorkshire!

The PECO Cross Country League is a series of 5 cross country races organised in and around Leeds in which clubs affiliated to the League compete across men's and ladies divisions. Each race is about 4-5 miles.

The simplest way to enter is to buy a season ticket online in advance for just £15 on the racebest website, which provides entry to all five races. Once registered and paid for, you will not need to register again all season. You will collect your season race number at the first race you attend and then you just turn up to each race with your number and run.

Alternatively you can enter each race in turn. The first time you register, you will need to pay £7 to cover your season race number (valid for all 5 races in the season) and your race entry fee. At subsequent races you will only need to pay for your race entry (£4). All entrants will be allocated a race number (with timing chip) which they must keep for the whole season. Replacements for lost or damaged numbers can be purchased at Race HQ for £3.

RULES FOR ENTRY:

1. The league is exclusive to the clubs that are members of the PECO XC league.
2. All competitors must be paid up members of a club which is affiliated to England Athletics at the time of the race.
3. Club members should be affiliated to England Athletics at the time of the race.
4. Club members who are not affiliated to England Athletics must pay the higher price of £25 (Season ticket) or £9 (single race entry with number) or £6 (single race entry already has number).

IF YOU CHOOSE TO ENTER ON THE DAY, then you will be defined as a "guest" and will not contribute to your team score. Only advance entries will be League "counters".

Race 1 - 24th November - Temple Newsam

Race 2 - 15th December - Middleton Park

Race 3 - 19th January - West Park

Race 4 - 9th February - TBA

Race 5 - 1st March - Roundhay

Relays - 29th March - TBA

An end of season party is also included in the price.
Saltaire Striders 2020 calendar
The 2020 Saltaire Striders calendar is now available to order via webcollect.

Produced in A3 format and full-colour, it is a proper working calendar and not just an ornament.
We have made considerable effort to include every member that takes part in club runs where possible.

Being the first time, we have only produced a limited number of calendars which are offered on a first-come-first-served basis. At £5 a calendar we feel it is a bargain!

Ilkley Junior Parkrun
A new junior parkrun will soon be starting in Ilkley.   If you’re interested in being involved in the set-up and/or running of this event, an initial planning meeting is being held at Booths café, Ilkley at 19.30 on Monday 11 Nov.  If you’d like to volunteer, or to find out more about what it entails, just turn up at the meeting.  There’s no minimum time commitment and no experience needed.  All help is appreciated.

For more info, join the Facebook group: “Ilkley junior parkrun volunteer group“

New Members

Welcome
to Robert Woolmer, Clare Taylor, Rob Simpson, Jenny Shaw and Lee Casson who joined the club in October and Carl Kernick who has rejoined.

Club Records

The club records are now available on the club web site.

Martin Fillingham broke the V45 10k record at the Abbey Dash with his time of  34:16
Club Championship

With just 3 more races to go in this years championship (well 4 really but you can't do both races on 3rd Nov. - there's a challenge to Martin Fillingham!) here are the standings after the Abbey Dash.

156 club members have competed in at least 1 club championship race with 78 having done 3 or more.

The Premier division looks like a 3 way battle between reigning champion Stuart Dunbar (who has already accumulated a maximum 400 points), Martin Fillingham just 4 points adrift and Captain Kerr a further 2 points adrift.

Suzanne Hague has a 9 point lead in the first division being chased by Lee East, Kerry Wood and Josie Briggs.

In the second division Richard Thomas looks uncatchable with a 28 point lead from Richard Bond followed by Janet and David Bower.

September Strider of the Month
Matt Richardson - started the month off with 2nd fastest leg on leg 6 of the Leeds Country Way relay (with partner Andy Brown).  Followed this up with a superb 22nd at the prestigious Ben Nevis fell race and then a week later surpassed that with 7th place at the Scafell Pike fell race. Having come 60th earlier in the year at Snowdon, these placed him 3rd in  the combined event for the Great Britain 3 peaks – races up the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales.
