Summer Away runs

The last away run of the year is Thursday 5th Sept. from The New Inn at Thornton led by Alun Griffiths.

There will be at least 2 run options of 8 miles and 5 miles, with a possible even shorter one if anyone would like. As its the last one of the year it would be nice to make it a bit of a social occasion there will be nibbles in the pub afterwards.

There will be no runs from Nuffield on that date.

Baildon 'No Watch' Race

Baildon runners have invited us to their No-watch race on Thursday 12th Sept. from the rugby club at Jenny Lane. There will be food available afterwards and the bar will be open.

For those of you who haven't done it before - they provide a map of the route and distance (there are usually 2 runs a shorter run of about 4 miles and longer route of 6 -7 miles) and you have to guestimate how long it will take you to complete the route taking into account your form and the hills. The winner is not the first person across the line but the person who's actual time is closest to their predicted time but as the title suggests you can't wear a watch.

September featured race

Kirkstall Abbey trail race

A club championship race starting in the grounds of Kirkstall Abbey at 10:00 on Sunday 29th Sept. A 7 mile, chip timed, multi-terrain, mostly flat course starting and finishing within the spectacular grounds of Kirkstall Abbey. The route takes in riverside paths and the canal towpath as well as road and the grounds of the Abbey. In support of Wheatfields Hospice.

The race starts with a lap round the Abbey ruins then out onto the A65 heading towards Horsforth. It then drops down a short hill on trail and then picks up the canal towpath heading in the Shipley direction. After almost 2 miles on the towpath you pass under the ring road and then cross the river and start heading back on the river bank coming to the first of 2 steady hills. From 5 miles you retrace your route on the trail up the second hill back to the A65 then back on the A65 to the grounds of the Abbey and a fast finish.

A bottle of beer and goody bag for all finishers.

Club Trip Reims 2019

Date : Sunday 20th October
Distances : Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k

Race registration is now open. Not sure how quickly the events sell out, so it might be worth while entering sooner rather than later.

There is a template for the required medical certificate on the Run In Reims website. If you would like to complete and upload this as part of your registration, and want Alun (Griffiths) to sign for you, then please print it, complete it, and see Alun on a club night. If you don’t get it done straight away don’t worry, you can always add it post registration. Completion of the certificate is your responsibility.

Saturday/Sunday long runs

There is a closed facebook group Saltaire Marathon And Long Run Friends for people who are interested in doing some longer runs during the winter at a steady pace. The runs are arranged via the group on an ad-hoc basis. If interested please ask to join the group.

August Strider of the Month

Simon Frazer - not for running, but for helping out when a runner collapsed during the vets race. He ran to the finish to alert race officials and the St John’s Ambulance people then ran back to the unfortunate runner on the riverbank. He took control of the situation and was a calming influence on both the casualty and his worried clubmates. He advised the St John’s team when they (eventually) arrived and stayed with the chap until he could be moved and get proper treatment, eventually getting home about 10.30.

Tuesday Track Sessions

Our interval sessions at Keighley track are now every Tuesday and are attended by ladies and gents of all abilities and we always tailor sessions to meet the needs of everyone who comes along. It costs £2 to use the track. Sessions start with 1,600m warm-up with dynamic stretches and strides and finish with cool down.
