July featured race

Saltaire Stampede

This was held for the first time last year as a 5m handicap race from Saltaire Brewey and was won by our own Claire Cockroft.  This year they have changed the format to a 5m race from the brewery but with a twist  everyone stands a chance of winning.

The race clock will be set to 70 mins, and will count down to zero. You decide when you want to start, based on how long you think it will take you to run the course, but you must get back before the clock reaches zero!

The winner will be the last person to set off, provided he / she gets back in time. The race should end with a stampede along Dockfield Road back into the brewery yard as the clock mercilessly ticks down to 0:00. Those who leave it too long and fail to 'beat the clock' will be eliminated from the results! Don't worry if this happens to you: you'll still get your race time, and (more importantly) your beer voucher!

The race route goes out on Dockfield road in the Shipley direction then crosses the river and comes back on the Nuffield side of the river (the footpath is a bit dodgy in places) until you get to Buck Bridge.  There is then a short climb up to the canal where you turn left and run along the towpath towards Apperley Bridge.  At the next swing bridge at Ainsbury Avenue you cross the canal and turn right onto the footpath and run back through fields and woods back to Buck Bridge.  The finish stretch is then back on the canal towpath in the Shipley direction until you reach the brewery (hopefully before the clock has run down).
The brewery’s tap room and VIP bar will both be open until 10.30pm, so the sooner you finish, the longer you will have to slake your thirst!
Club Trip Reims 2019
Date : Sunday 20th October
Distances : Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k

Race registration is now open.  Not sure how quickly the events sell out, so it might be worth while entering sooner rather than later.

There is a template for the required medical certificate on the Run In Reims website.  If you would like to complete and upload this as part of your registration, and want Alun (Griffiths) to sign for you, then please print it, complete it, and see Alun on a club night.  If you don’t get it done straight away don’t worry, you can always add it post registration.   Completion of the certificate is your responsibility.

For full details see the January newsletter.

If you already know that you will be joining the trip, or have any questions  then please e-mail Lindsey Pearson

May Strider of the Month
Igs Robun - for stepping up to and completing the challenging Hardmoors 110 mile trail race. After his success in the 50 mile Cleveland Way 50th Anniversary Hardmoors 50 event in March he upped the ante with the 110. On the last weekend of the month Igs started running at 8am on Saturday morning. He finished just after 18:00 on Sunday evening. In the intervening 34 hours he covered a total of 112 miles, yes you all read that correctly 112 miles. Those miles were virtually all off road on a mix of coastal paths and moorland trails with lots and lots of steps!! in the North Yorkshire Moors. In total Igs climbed nearly 20,000 feet. This is probably the longest distance ever covered by a Saltaire Strider and for this amazing performance surely Igs Robun must be SOTM for May 2019. What next Igs. The 200!!??
Club Championship 2019
