Club Trip Reims 2019
Date : Sunday 20th October
Distances : Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k
Routes : Please visit http://www.runinreims.com/ which has video footage of the 2018 races and route maps.  The 10k is in the centre of Reims which is a UNESCO World Heritage site; the Half Marathon will also be in the historic centre of Reims and surrounding towns; the Marathon participants will be lucky enough to run into local countryside and through the Champagne vineyards

Registration : 2018 costs were between e10 - e45 depending on race distance and early bird discounts *Race entries do not open until 2nd April.

Medical Certificate : There is a requirement in France for participants in sporting events to submit a Medical Certificate.  The race website has a template to download.  Your GPs will likely charge for signing the certificate so you should check with them the cost, however for those wishing to avail of his services Alun Griffiths has offered to certify them for club members free of charge

Flights : *Jet2 has flights available on Thursday 17 October and Friday 18 October trom LBA to CDG.

*The Friday flight is a little later in the day, the Thursday flight is slightly cheaper.  Some people have already confirmed that they intend to travel on the Thursday flight.   Obviously the longer you wait to book flights may impact availability and/or price (up or down).  Jet2 have been offering a discount for MyJet2 Members - it’s free to join so enrol before you start the booking process to check what offers are available.

*Return flight Monday 21 October.

Train : Eurostar could be an option for those not wanting to fly, although tickets and prices not usually published until 6 months before departure date

Transfer : Direct trains 4 times daily from CDG to Reims at £25-£35, 35 minutes, timetable not yet available.  More regular trains from central Paris, indirect 45 minutes, likely to be cheaper.  Alternatively there are companies that provide minibus transfers from CDG to Reims which we could consider depending on numbers and cost.  Let Lindsey know which outbound/return flights you have booked (and numbers e.g partner ) and she will try to organise a group transfer option.

Accommodation

*Ibis Reims Centre Gare is a reasonably priced hotel close to the railway station and also relatively close to the town centre (10 minutes).
Holiday Inn in Reims centre.

*There are many other hotels ranging in price from very basic to expensive.

*Airbnb has lots of availability for couples if alternative cheaper accommodation is needed. If you are a single looking to share with someone then Lindsey can put you in touch with any other singles in a similar position.

Duration : 4 day trip going on the Friday before the race and returning on the Monday following the race.  Travel days are only a suggestion but will likely be when the majority of the group will go - there will be the option to have extra days before or after to spend more time in Reims, or to transfer and see the delights that Paris has to offer

Participants : All club members are welcome on the trip, and partners or significant others are most welcome.

Activities : We tend to sightsee in small groups, but get together for drinks on an evening, and have one large group meal on the Sunday night following the race - participation in group activities is not compulsory and some people like to spend the long weekend much to themselves which is absolutely fine

Reims : It is a beautiful city in Champagne country.  Main attractions are the cathedral, museum, art deco market, Verzenay Lighthouse.  And not forgetting the Champagne houses

If you already know that you will be joining the trip, or have any questions  then please e-mail Lindsey Pearson

December Strider of the Month
Tim Baldwin - set a new 10k PB (34:14) at the Percy Pud race in Sheffield on 2nd Dec then leading home the team in the second Peco race at Temple Newsam in a superb 6th place and his 2nd consecutive top 10 finish.  Tim has been training hard recently, including at the track in Keighley and this certainly appears to be paying off!
