Peco Cross-Country

We are organising the next race at Temple Newsam on 16th Dec. so volunteers are required for mashalling, course set up, etc.

If you haven't entered the full series you can still enter individual races at a cost of £7 for the first race (to cover race number) and £4 for each subsequent race you enter.

25 ladies and 36 men completed the first of the 5 Peco series races with a number of vets podium finishes. The mens team finished 5th out of 7 in the premier league but finished 1st in the vets league, the ladies finished 4th out of 7 in the first division and 6th in the vets.

It was agreed to increase the annual subscriptions by £2 to £28 to cover the new £2 per member affiliation to Northern Athletics.

Saturday/Sunday long runs

There is a closed facebook group Saltaire Marathon And Long Run Friends for people who are interested in doing some longer runs during the winter at a steady pace. The runs are arranged via the group on an ad-hoc basis. If interested please ask to join the group.

In the individual series results Helen Love finished 2nd F60 and Helen Brant just missed out on a podium position with 4th in the F35 category. Kirstie Holmes and Helen Western finished in top 10 positions in the F40 and F50 categories respectively. For the men Will Kerr was the overall series winner and 1st V40 with 5 race victories and a 2nd place in the series and Stuart Dunbar the V55 champion. Alun Griffiths achieved a top 10 finish in the V60 category.

For the complete series the ladies finished 5th in both the 4 to count and all to count categories and 6th in the rest to count category. The men were 4th in the All to count and rest to count categories and 3rd in the 4 to count category.

October Strider of the Month

Alex Ayling - Every single club member brings something to the club. Whether it’s running talent, their quirky personality or determination to run. 2018 was to be the year Alex did her first half marathon but instead of running the Baildon Boundary Way she was preparing for surgery. Post surgery and 6 months chemotherapy (with 7 sessions every 3 weeks) and only 4 weeks after her last treatment (having only managed two short runs) Alex did her comeback race in the 30 degree temperatures in Palma. Suffice to say there were tears and hugs a plenty as she
crossed the finish line. Alex’s determination to get back running has been inspiring. She has been so positive through the months of treatment. Sometimes PBs, long distances, 1st places etc are not significant - but strength of character, guts and sheer determination win out. What an inspiration this lady is, and how proud we should be as a club to have her as one of our own. Well done Alex on your running and non running achievements this year - you are a STAR.

Stuart Dunbar has retained the premiership title with 8 maximum points scores with Will Kerr in 2nd and Martin Fillingham and Helen Love tied in 3rd place.

Tuesday Track Sessions

Our interval sessions at Keighley track are now every Tuesday and are attended by ladies and gents of all abilities and we always tailor sessions to meet the needs of everyone who comes along. It costs £2 to use the track. Sessions start with 1,600m warm-up with dynamic stretches and strides and finish with cool down.
