Welcome to the Saltaire Striders newsletter. The next edition of the newsletter will be published at the end of September so if you have anything to be included please submit it by 28th September.

As we move into September, more and more runs are going to be finishing in the fading light, so time to dig out your fluorescent vest/T shirt, flashing arm bands or whatever is your preferred option.

Social Events

Baildon 'No Watch' race

Thurs. 13th Sept. 7:00 - Baildon Rugby club, Jenny Lane. BD17 6RS

For those that are new to the club or haven't done it before. There are usually 2 run options of 3-4 miles and 6 - 7 miles. They will tell you the route on the night and you have to carefully take into consideration the hills, distance, terrain, etc. to calculate your estimated finishing time for your chosen route. The winner is not the first person across the finishing line but the person who's actual finishing time is closest to their predicted time. As the name suggests you are not allowed to wear a watch.

There will be food afterwards in the rugby club and the bar will be open. We hope as many Striders can make it as possible and there will be no runs from Nuffield on that evening. Registration 18:45 - 19:00.

July Strider of the Month

Martin Love – for virtually single handedly organising the superb Yorkshire Vets race, planning the route, liaising with all the 3rd parties (Bfd & Bingley, Yorkshire vets, Canal & River trust, Parks Authority, Cricket club, Rowing club) and recruiting 30+ marshalls to make sure no-one got lost and sacrificing his own run on the day to make sure it all ran smoothly. Gained great feedback for the club from Yorkshire Vets.

Club Championship 2018

Here are the full points positions after the Even Splits 5k with 8 races left.

The Bradford City runs are back on and have been re-instated to the championship. The St. Aidans trail half marathon on 21st Oct. which was to be the replacement (as advised in the July newsletter) will also be retained as a bonus championship race.

In the Premier division it's going to be a close call between Will Kerr and Stuart Dunbar with only 0.03% separating them on the WAVA scoring system at the Even Splits 5k.

The next races are the Vale of York half, Kirkstall Abbey 7m and the Lister Park park run on the 6th Oct.

Tuesday Track Sessions

Our interval sessions at Keighley track are now every Tuesday and are attended by ladies and gents of all abilities and we always tailor sessions to meet the needs of everyone who comes along. It costs £2 to use the track. Sessions start with 1,600m warm-up with dynamic stretches and strides and finish with cool down.
