The Pecos Done and Dusted

Unfortunately the ladies suffered the commentators curse (see January newsletter) and were pipped at the post (on countback) by Wharfedale Harriers for the second promotion position. It was a season of 2 halves really with us getting a flying start (thanks in part to Hannah Oldroyd winning the first 2 races) with 2nd place at Nostell Priory and Golden Acre but then fading away a little with 3rd, 4th and 6th places whereas Wharfedale were just the opposite starting off with 6th and 5th places but then coming through strongly with 3 consecutive 2nd places to pip us. However, the ladies did brilliantly to finish 2nd in the Vets premier league.

On the individual front Bernie Bowden finished 3rd F45 in the series and Helen Love 2nd F60. For the men Andy Brown (V45) and Stuart Dunbar (V55) both won their categories and Martin Fillingham achieved a podium position with 3rd V45.

The men finished 3rd which is probably as good as we could have hoped for at the start of the season. We also finished 3rd in the vets league

Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix 2018

The first race of the 2018 Grand Prix will be at Horsforth on 18th March followed by the Yorkshire Vets AGM. The other dates / venues for the series are:

22nd April - Honley
29th May - Kirkstall
3rd June - Lythe, Nr. Whitby
5th July - Keighley
24th July - Bingley (organised by Saltaire Striders)
8th August - Halifax
22nd August - West Vale
11th November - Spenborough

January Strider of the Month

Rachel Parker for her amazing running in January including a substantial PB at half marathon, a race win at a local 5k and completing the Northern Cross Country Championships. Since her illness last year Rachel has clearly got her running major back and is doing some great prep work for London. She is enthusiastic in sharing her love of running and encouraging others to get out and get involved. She also does a lot for the club behind the scenes looking after membership issues and answering queries.

Tuesday Track Sessions

Our interval sessions at Keighley track are now every Tuesday and are attended by ladies and gents of all abilities and we always tailor sessions to meet the needs of everyone who comes along. It costs £2 to use the track. Sessions start with 1,600m warm-up with dynamic stretches and strides and finish with cool down.
