19th Mar. Club dinner and prize presentation evening - The Halway House, Baildon. 7:30

The Club Dinner is always a really good evening and a nice opportunity to see your fellow Striders spruced up and not wearing mud covered lycra. No running, just eating and drinking. . This year we are going to a new venue.

There will be a raffle, Disco with Dad Dancing and some Yummy Mummy Moves too, prizes for running and generally being a good Strider. We have a few other surprises planned too.

Promised donations for our raffle at the club dinner are now trickling in, so a big thank you to those who have been kind enough to give something or have been able to source from an employer/supplier etc.  If you have a potential prize lurking at the back of a cupboard, or can splash out a £ or two on something (doesn't have to be big, we will use smaller items as consolation prizes) then it would be really appreciated (alcohol, chocolates and absolutely anything else welcome).  Please hand your donations to Lindsey or Ben Pearson or any of the committee members.  Thank you".

GARY PENNINGTON - In February Gary achieved a 10k PB at Dewsbury (45:36) and also got close to his 1/2 marathon PB on the tough Liversedge course. Gary also continued his impressive run of Parkrun times with a 22:21 PB at the end of the month.

MATT RICHARDSON - Matt has been running PBs for fun in recent months and in February achieved another 10k PB running 37:54 in the Dewsbury 10k. He was also the 5th Strider home in the final Peco race.

GRAHAM CORBETT - Graham started the month with a Parkrun PB of 18:09 and followed this the next day with a 10k PB in Dewsbury of 36:19. He was then also the second Strider home in the final Peco.

TRACY FOY - Tracy has been nominated for pulling out all the stops to help keep the ladies' team in the premiership at the final peco race. She then followed this up with a 10 mile PB in under 80 minutes at the Snake Lane 10. All that track work must be paying off! She also ran well in the Dewsbury 10k (47:36).

Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix Series 2016

The new season of Yorkshire Vets races will soon be upon us and it would be good to get an even better turnout of Saltaire Striders this year, when 4 of our members carried off awards at the end of the series.

The Grand Prix is a series of 10 races spread over the year and the county in which runners accumulate points for both individual awards (based on your best 7 races) and for the club. The races are generally about 5 miles long, on a variety of terrain, and suitable for absolutely all abilities. The only restriction is that you have to have reached the grand old age of 35 in order to compete. Each race costs just £5 to enter and as well as the season-long awards there are prizes at each individual race and lots of spot prizes too.

Full details are available on the YVAA website http://www.yvaa.org/2016-races/ .

The first race is on Sunday, April 24th at Honley, near Huddersfield and is a mainly off-road romp around Last of the Summer Wine country. Many of the subsequent races are on summer weekday evenings.

If you want any more info, please ask one of your Vets Captains (Louise Nash & Martin Love) at training. We will send round reminders closer to each race and arrange car-shares wherever possible.
